Love the book and its sequel.

I read the hard copy from friend's library, a long time ago when it first come out. And loved the sequel Truth or Dare. There were both amazing.

It book is about two Ethan a very Jaded detective who moves into town with his sister in law and her young boys after the murder of Ethan's younger Drew. He meet his first client a woman called Zoe who asks him to investigate the disappearance of a client's wife. It turns out that Zoe is going to be a repeat client. Zoe it turns out escaped from a mental asylum, with her friend Arcadia who was also in the same asylum as her and helped her to escape. We met other characters who will be integrated into the story line and the group. Ethan then precessed to marry Zoe to protect her from her family as well as the asylum that is being paid to keep her under lock and key.

Highly Entertaining Contemporary Romance!

Zoe Luce has gone to great lengths to appear as normal as possible. She changed her name and moved to Whispering Springs, AZ to make a fresh start and leave all who knew her behind. However, it is hard to appear normal when walls start screaming at her in her new client's bedroom. Zoe has always had sensitivity to rooms where great emotions were felt and she knows that something terrible happened in that room. She has a sinking suspicion that her new client killed his wife in that room. Zoe isn't sure what to do so she hires Ethan Truax, the new private investigator in town to find her client's wife, but Ethan is suspicious of Zoe and is determined to find out more about her.
Ethan knows that Zoe is not what she seems, especially after he finds her client's wife buried in the backyard, but he cannot seem to break through her shell - until Zoe gets a blackmail note. When Ethan finds out that Zoe was imprisoned in a mental hospital by her dead husband's family, he knows that he has to protect her. He is not sure why, but it is just something that he does. When his brother was murdered, he lost his career, his third wife, everything to bring his rich and powerful killers to justice - and it was worth it. Ethan, too, is starting over and he thinks that he has found the fresh start that he wants in Zoe. However, Zoe and Ethan are way too stubborn and afraid to share their hopes and dreams with each other. Will they admit their love before more lives are ruined?
I enjoyed this book more than I have enjoyed a Jayne Ann Krentz book in a while. I really felt that Krentz was making an effort to differentiate her characters from other books that she had written and not do the stereotypical quirky heroine with stoic, incommunicative hero. I really liked Zoe and found her to be quite normal (aside from the screaming walls thing) and Ethan was much more in tune with himself than most of the other heroes out there. My only complaint was that there were a lot of side plots going on in the book and Krentz didn't have time to follow up on all of them in a satisfactory fashion. I think that it would have been better for this book to have been split into two so that the characters and the plot could have been more developed. Still, if you enjoy Krentz, I think you will like this one and it is worth your time to check it out from the library or buy from a used bookstore.

JAK on top again!!

JAK has been one of my favourite writers for nearly two decades. Even in her earliest works you see the diamond brilliance that has put her at the top. However, I was disappointed in some of her recent works. Then she came powering back with the marvellous "Summer in Eclipse Bay" and was SO perfect!! So when "Smoke and Mirrors" came...I went hum....so so but could have been better - much beter. Worse, was her Amanda Quick's "Don't Look Back" so dreadfully dull, that I wanted to howl. Swore I would stop buying her in hardback! And immediately turned around and could not resist buying "Light in Shadow". It just sounded so good....and it IS!!
JAK is back in top form providing a warm, humourous, loving mystery that I just could not put down!! It is billed as "A Whispering Springs Novel" so we can except two more I am presuming, and I shall be first in line for the sequels.
In this mystery, JAK gives us a Zoe Luce an interior decorator with a special touch: she can "feel emotions" within a room. Currently, she is decorating a house for a new ex-husband, who claims he wants a redo after his wife left him. However, the instant Zoe steps into the bedroom and see the missing bed and shower curtains in the bathroom, she knows he killed his wife. What to do. Zoe cannot go to the police for two reasons:.... She has to do something, so she finds the add for Ethan Truax, a private detective in the town. Sam Spade he is not. He is just coming off his bad third marriage, a failed business and rebuilding his life and career.
Truax does what Zoe hires him to do, find the missing wife - dead or alive - but that is just the tip of the iceberg.
It's typical JAK yeah, but its JAK at her best, so her fans will dance with job as another of her memorial gems!!
Bring on more Whispering Springs novel....Zoe and Ethan steal your heart!!

Highly Over-rated!

The photographs in this book are pleasant enough, but the information is frequently incorrect. Coles and Budwig are following up their previous poorly-penned book with more of the same. Bead research is accomplished by people who dedicate years to this pursuit. Merely publishing a few photographs with some garbled and incorrect information may be entertaining (especially for anyone who doesn't know any better), but is a total waste of time for anyone who is seriously interested in the subject. It were infinitely better to refer to Dubin's History of Beads, or almost any other publication.

About the Author

Shawkat Alam is a Senior Lecturer and Director of the Centre for International and Environmental Law at Macquarie University where he teaches and researches in the areas of international and environmental law. His recent publication includes Sustainable Development and Free Trade (Routledge, 2008).

 

Md. Jahid Hossain Bhuiyan teaches law in the Department of Law, ASA University Bangladesh. He was a visiting scholar of Emory Law School, USA. During his studies in Belgium he gained experience in legal practice. He is co-editor of Globalization, International Law, and Human Rights (OUP, 2012).

 

Dr Tareq M.R. Chowdhury is Professor and Dean at the Faculty of Law, ASA University Bangladesh. He was faculty member of Stockholm University, Sweden. He has contributed many research articles. He is the author of Legal Framework of International Supervision (Stockholm University, 1986).

 

Erika J Techera is a Professor at The University of Western Australia where she teaches and researches in international and comparative environmental law. I loved this book

I loved both of these characters. Lindsay was introduced in "Secrets of Midnight". SHe goes to London for her Season and meets the dashing Jared. Well, I won't write what the book is about but I loved these two characters. Lindsay is a naive, sheltered girl and she believes everything Jared says. SHe believes he is a spy for England but she finds out he isn't and she still won't give up on him. I thought Jared was a beautiful man, with a torturous past. I recommend this book. I believe you should read "SEcrets of Midnight". Even though they are both stand alone books. Corie and Donovan make an appearance in this book and I always love to read books where you can revisit the characters from previous novels.

I normally do not read series, but after reading Secrets of Midnight, I immediately downloaded My Runaway Heart to my kindle. I was completely captivated by the book and how the story was going for both Corie and Lindsay. The characters are well developed and one cannot help but to love them. The Regency Men of Their Dreams series will be at the top of my love list forever.

About the Author
Shailja Patel was born and raised in Kenya, has lived in London and San Francisco, and now divides her time between Nairobi and Berkeley. Trained as a political economist, accountant and yoga teacher, she honed her poetic skills in performances that have received standing ovations on three continents. She has been described by the Gulf Times as "the poetic equivalent of Arundhati Roy" and by CNN as "the face of globalization as a people-centered phenomenon of migration and exchange". Patel has appeared on the BBC World Service, NPR and Al-Jazeera. Her work has been translated into twelve languages. She is a recipient of a Sundance Theatre Fellowship, an African Guest Writer Fellowship from the Nordic Africa Institute, the Fanny-Ann Eddy Poetry Award from IRN-Africa, the Voices of Our Nations Poetry Award, a Lambda Slam Championship, and the Outwrite Poetry Prize.

For Shailja after Migritude

you pack a hefty wallop, Ms Patel,
you and your brew
distilled from bushels of memories
soaked in admonition
injected with judgment
corked carefully away like family treasures
left to ferment subcutaneously
steeped in your bones to marrow of rage

til
when the time is ripe
through every pore every follicle
you secrete the untold stories

two hundred proof, they burn going down
light headed we listen
heavy hearted we hear

we drink deep draught of your migritude
reel but do not fall
we are swamped in Niagara of your migritude
but do not drown
we are burned in Vesuvius of your migritude,
smelted, burned clean.

You, smelter
aglow.

Plus it takes care of all your holiday shopping in one fell swoop -- admittedly, a few of your in-laws may take your gift of "Migritude" as some sort of personal criticism of their unenlightened embrace of capitalism -- but that's just the signal for you to take them to a live performance of "Migritude."
