Truly A Spectacular Work! This Is THE M1 Garand Book to Have...

Bruce Canfield's new book, "The M1 Garand Rifle" is simply amazing! I think this is the current title holder for the best gun book ever published. That's my initial assessment, based on several factors. Here are some of my observations in the few hours I have spent with the book so far:

¡ It's 872 pages long - A tome of Garand information with no comparison
¡ Photos are color throughout, wherever color photos were available
¡ It features profuse use of inset marking photos, which is a feature I love to see
¡ The book is in portrait format, which is easier to reference, yet it still presents the rifles and inset photos in a pleasing layout that is more often experienced in a landscape formatted book
¡ The detail is incredible
¡ Bruce must have thousands of hours in this book
¡ I like how accessories are featured throughout the book
¡ Photography is top notch
¡ This book will be very difficult to top, and I don't think anyone will attempt to do so - This is the authoritative reference on the subject that will be studied for decades to come

I am among 58 who are listed as contributing to the book, however I do not have any major connection to it, and this is all Bruce Canfield's work. My contribution was extremely minor, in that I reviewed the Field Manual and Technical Manual commentary, and provided a couple of pictures. Whenever a good firearm reference book like this is written, many collectors are consulted for photos and information. It's what helps the author to make it as comprehensive as it can be at the time it's written.

Bruce should be extremely proud of this book. Wow! It's really exceptionally great. I enthusiastically give it 5 stars for a rating. I will spend a lot of time with this one, and anyone with an interest in the M1 Garand should order one immediately, without hesitation. You will be very happy you did. Add it to your Christmas list, but make it an early present to yourself...

The most complete and thorough book on "the finest battle implement ever devised."

Bruce Canfield's books are invariably well-researched and complete. What is more important, he has the ability to make topic(s) that can be very dry & technical [ie: "b-o-r-i-i-i-n-g!"] into something engaging and worthwhile. If this book has a problem it is that it is a MIGHTY TOME, and it really should have been broken down into two volumes to make reading it less of a [physical] chore. Due to the book's large size & substantial composition [ie, it's a quality binding on premium grade paper stock], you pretty much HAVE to sit at a table to read it: it's just not a comfortable item to keep on the bedside table to peruse before lights-out. Ah, the price of success! ;-) I have several of Canfield's other books, and this one is truly his masterpiece. Worth every penny!

Full conjugation charts for each person and each tense were the best part of other versions, as they were visually easy to read and it was easy to locate what one needed. As a native English speaker teaching English to non-native speakers, I probably would not recommend this particular edition

CD doesn't work on recent MACs

The book is fine. My problem is the CD that accompanies the book. It says that it will work on MACs, but it is a PowerPC application. PowerPC is no longer supported on MAC and hasn't been for a while now. Wouldn't be so bad, but the copyright on the CD is dated 2013.

An absolutely wonderful and informative read!!!!!

This is an amazing book!!! I absolutely love it!!! There is so much good information in it. It certainly helped me understand a lot of things about the fandom that I never really understood completely or even things that I never even ever thought about. I want to say congrats, good job, and thanks to all the people who worked hard to put this book together. You all are truly inspirational. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is even remotely interested or curious about the furry fandom. Trust me when I say that you will not regret buying and reading this book.

Furries through and through!

An insightful and thoroughly comprehensive look at what in means to be a "furry". I would recommend this book to anyone who is curious about the furry fandom, whether they're just learning of it for the first time or have been part of it for years. Through engaging personal narratives (I loved Cutter Cat's touching description of the "why" of fursuiting) and fascinating new studies (Nuka's "By The Numbers" had me quoting stats out loud to anyone who would listen), this book clears up many of the misconceptions surrounding furries, and explains why so many people continue to fall in love with this community.
