The 60 chapter narrative is interspersed with 507 photographs of historic monuments, forts, battlegrounds, commercial and residential establishments and places of worship. Compulsive Reading Excellent Photography
By Gurpreet Singh Anand
The book is not just a journey of the author but of hundreds and thousands of Sikhs and Hindus scattered all over the diaspora of the communities who wish to connect with their past but are hesitant .
Reading the first few pages immediately connects you with writer's journey taken in 2014 and with exceptional photographs you feel the angst of departed community whose relics are being eroded with passage of time .
The grandeur of the temples and gurdawaras , the forts and palaces now lying uncared for the dwellings of original occupants being occupied by the people now living there all makes the reader sit up and wish to do something for .
A community whose roots are mostly in west Punjab but who were forced to migrate en masse in the turmoil of partition of 1947 will find the book appealing .
I only wish a paperback edition comes soon so more people can buy and read the book .
It is not just Amardeep's journey to Pakistan covered within the pages of the book but of all departed and their descendants of ones who peopled this land but were forced to migrate in 1947 .

Masterpiece !
By Amazon Customer
An absolute 'must-buy' for anyone interested in Sikh and Punjabi heritage !
Every page is bursting with wonderful photographs, most of which document beautifully previously unpublished and unseen exteriors and interiors of long forgotten buildings and places.
The pictures are complemented perfectly by equally lovingly researched and presented text, in the form of a journey of discovery.
It is no exaggeration to say the book is mesmerising. You will experience feelings and emotions ranging from pride and awe at the majestic, diverse and multi-faceted splendour of Sikh built, material and intangible heritage, to feelings of profound sadness and despair at its neglect and state of disrepair. The pictures show noble edifices that would have been full of colourful turbans and dupattas, resounding with sacred sounds and buzzing with activity and vibrant Sikh life, now deserted and empty yearning for even a friendly glance. The naked flag pole at the Aitchison College Gurdwara is perhaps the best metaphor for the love and respect that Sikh heritage in Pakistan is yearning for, the vibrant clothing of a Nishan Sahib ‘Chola’.
The word ‘masterpiece’ is overused but in this case there is no other word that does justice to the enormity and sheer scale of this book. It is a masterpiece that gives us a window into a forgotten world, a world so tantalizingly close to many Sikhs, in some cases a few miles away, but unreachable.
A window on a longed for place that we have prayed for in our ‘Ardas’ every day since partition.
I thank Sardar Amardeep Singh ji for giving us that window.

All history lovers must buy this book.
By Nick Singh
This is an amazing book that all lovers of history must have. Beaing a Sikh and having roots in present day Pakistan, I felt the need to connect with my heritage. Physically going to Pakistan may not be an option at this time, but buying and reading this book was a possibility. The pictures are amazing and allow the reader to connect with all the amazing history and stories of our past. The book is also well written and a true page turner. I could not stop reading.
The history of the Sikhs and it ability to govern is especially important in today's polarized world. The equal handed government, giving equal opportunity to all regardless of race and religion was a true expression of the Sikh ideology and religion put into practice. If this had continued and not abruptly thwarted, its quite possible the world would not be facing the extreme Islamic ideology of today. But getting back on topic,
A heartfelt "Thank You" to the author for all his hard work in allowing us to remember and preserve our history.
Whae Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Whae Guru Ji Ke Fathe.
